Ross said “Chardonnay” sailed so well and so fast, going up the Sound of Mull with a North-Westerly of 14 knots to 20 knots she pointed high and generally exceeded 7.5 knots with frequent trips into the 8 knots + speed.

Ross went on to say “returning today from Tobermory she cruised at 6 knots + with only the Genoa up and when we hoisted the main in a lighter wind again 7 to 8 knots was attained. Before Lismore Light the wind got up to 28k and we took in the no 1 reef and rolled in a bit of Genoa, at one stage I saw 10 knots on the speed log but discounted this as 8 knots plus was coming up regularly. Heading for Dunstaffnage we took the sails down and again I was impressed by the quietness of the engine. There were not many other boats around while sailing but any we did see we rapidly overhauled and left far astern.” Ross and Diana are keeping their boat at Dunstaffnage since they feel that it is one of the best cruising grounds anywhere in world.
